City birthday celebrated tonight
From 5 to 7 tonight, city officials will cele-
brate the 45th birthday of the City ofWestland
at Jefferson-Barns Elementary School, locat-
ed at 32150Dorsey St.
The event is free and open to the public
andwill include a liveDJ, bouncers, policeK-
9 dog demos, a fire safety trailer, dunk a
police officer in the dunk tank, an old fash-
ioned barbeque and other family entertain-
ment.
"These events are a great opportunity for
residents of our All American City to come
out and have fun with their family free of
charge," said Westland Mayor William R.
Wild. "Residents can also meet with city offi-
cials in an informal setting to address any
questions or concerns they have or just sim-
ply introduce themselves."

The Greater Works Deliverance Ministries
are sponsoring free community law seminars

Yard sale volunteers sought
The Belleville Area Museum and
Historical Society will take part in the city-
wide yard sale from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
today and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. tomorrow,
Saturday and Sunday and volunteer help is
being sought for the event. Volunteers will
work in two shifts each day of the sale and
help for cleanup onSunday is also needed.

The sale will take place at the home of his-
torical society members John and Debbie
Juriga at 327EastHuronRiverDr.
Proceeds from the salewill be used to sup-
port the projects and programs of the
BellevilleAreaMuseum.
Library hosts blood drive
Those who donate a pint of blood at the
Canton Public Library any time between 11
a.m. and 4:45 p.m. tomorrow will be regis-
tered in a raffle to win two tickets to Cedar
Point and free gasoline for a year.
Everyone who joins the effort and donates
blood will be rewarded with a free box of
chocolates.
Blood donations are the lowest seen by the
American Red Cross in over a decade; the 43
hospitals in the tri-county area alone use 800
pints per day, a library spokesman said.

Mystery on Tipping Point stage
The Mystery of Irma Vep by Charles
Ludlam will be presented at the Tipping
Point Theatre, 361 E. Cady St. in Northville

Newcomers celebrate 40 years
The Canton Newcomers will celebrate the
40th anniversary of the club at 7:15 Sept. 7 at
the Sunflower Subdivision clubhouse, 45800
Hanford, west of CantonCenter.
The name of the club has been changed to
the Canton Newcomers and Neighbors Club
and the public is invited to the meeting,
which will include a treat from Carrabba's
ItalianGrill and a raffle.

Park pavilion dedication set
The Romulus Downtown Development
Authority and the City of Romulus will mark
the official ribbon cutting and grand opening
of the pavilion at Romulus Historical Park at
11:30 a.m. Sept. 7.
The pavilion is located at 11147Hunt St. in
Romulus.
PlymouthHigh School reunion planned
The PlymouthHigh School Class of 1956 is
planning a pair of reunions for September.
The 55th reunion is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 10
at Karl's Cabin restaurant and an all school
reunionwill take place fromnoon until 5 p.m.
at the Plymouth Elks Lodge, 41700 Ann Arbor
Road, on the south side of Plymouth.
The class of 1956 has sponsored this event
every five years for some time andmore than
500 alumni, facultymembers and staff attend-
ed five years ago.
Reservations are not required. There will
be a $6 per person admission fee at the door
which includes a picnic-style buffet lunch.

Museumhosts nostalgia sale
The annual Nostalgia Sale of the
Plymouth Historical Museum will take place
during the Plymouth Fall Festival from 9 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Sept. 8, 9, and 10.
The sale will take place at 345 Sunset St.,
Plymouth, not at the museum. Sale items
include nostalgic and/or historic artifacts no
longer needed at the museum, as well as
donated items and the museum is currently
accepting donated items for the sale in order
to raisemore funds.
All proceeds benefit the Plymouth
HistoricalMuseum, which is privately funded
and receives no government support. Anyone
interested in the yard sale, or who wants to

more information. The Plymouth Historical
Museum is located at 155 South Main St., one

Public Safety Awareness Day set
The Van Buren Public Safety chaplains
have planned a Public Safety Appreciation
Day from noon until 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at Open
Arms Lutheran church next to Belleville Fire
Stationno. 2.
The event will include a pig roast lunch-
eon and all public safety employees and their
families will be admitted free, as will all chil-
dren 7 and younger. Others will be asked for a
$3 donation which will go to charitable funds
set upby the chaplains.
The chaplains have urged all residents of
Van Buren, Belleville and Sumpter to attend
the event.

Senior Summit is planned
Canton Township Supervisor Phil LaJoy
will host a Senior Summit from8:30 a.m. until
2 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Summit on thePark.
LaJoy began the event as a State
Representative and has continued it for
Canton seniors. The event will feature a wide
array of informational booths and presenta-
tions for seniors. There will also be door
prizes, a continental breakfast, lunch and
bingo.
The event is free, however a ticket, avail-
able at both the supervisor's office and the
senior center at the Summit on the Park, is
required.
