HallelujahGirls presented
Five friends run their makeshift day spa
against a backdrop of love, loss, and long-
time enemies in The Hallelujah Girls, open-
ingAug. 3 at Barefoot Productions Theatre.
Audience members on opening night
have the opportunity to attend the Afterglow
Party, a new tradition at Barefoot that allows
the public to mingle with the cast and enjoy
local cuisine immediately following the
show. Catering will be provided by Grecian
Gardens of Plymouth.
The Hallelujah Girls takes to the stage on
Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Barefoot Productions
Theatre, 240 N. Main St., Plymouth and will
continue for just two weekends.
Performances start at 8 p.m., while matinee
shows begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4 and
Aug. 11.
All tickets are $15 with the exception of
the first performance, where $20 includes
admission to the show plus the Afterglow

Library hosts compost experts
From 1-2:30 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 3,
Square Foot Gardening instructor James
Lee and master composter Jesse
Raudenbush will host an Introduction to
Vermiculture: Worms Eat My Garbage at the
Romulus PublicLibrary.
They will discuss basic techniques to aid
in creating a perfect planting and fertilizer
mix usingwormresidue.
The lecture is free, although registration
at the library circulationdesk is suggested.

Classic car showplanned
Maple Manor Rehabilitation Center is
hosting a free Classic Car Show from noon
until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.
The show includes a complimentary
lunch, live music, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes

Tennis classes offered
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will offer an
Introduction to Tennis program from 6-6:55
p.m. on Wednesdays from Aug. 14 until Sept.
4.
The sessions will take place at Attwood
Park and are designed for students 6-10
years of age. The cost for the lessons, which
will teach basic skills, concepts, terminology
and skills, is $30 per student. Racquets will
be provided for studentswho need them.
A more advanced Skills Camp will be
offered from 7-7:55 p.m. the same dates.
These classes are for 11-14 year old students
andwill also cost $30 per student.
Classes are designed for beginning and
intermediate level students.
Students should bring a racquet, sun-
screen, water bottle andwear tennis shoes.
All classes will take place at Attwood
Park.

Raffle tickets aid shelter
Jakes Auto and Truck Repair has donat-
ed a 2013 Del Ray scooter which is being raf-
fled off to help fund the Romulus Animal
Shelter.
Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and

at the Romulus Animal Shelter and from

Annual YardSale planned
The Belleville Area Museum and
Historical Society needs newor slightly used
unwanted items for the upcoming Belleville
CityWideYardSale, set for Sept. 5-8.
Items can be dropped off at the museum,
405 Main St., or at John Juriga's home on
East Huron River Drive after Aug. 5. Tax
donation letters will be issued for all dona-
tions.
Volunteers are also needed to help with
the sale. Those interested in helping should
contact the museum for more information,

Softball leagues now forming
The Wayne Westland parks and
Recreation Department is now accepting
registrations for theFall Softball Leagues
Games will take place weekdays at
Anderson Park and Wayne and Jaycee Park
in Westland. There will e a managers meet-
ing at 7 .m. Sept. 4 at the Wayne Community
Center. Games will begin the week of Sept.
10. Registration fee is $250 per team and
must be paid in full at the time of registra-
tion. An additional $13 per team must be
paid to the umpire at the beginning of each
game.

Public Safety Day planned
Van Buren Police and Fire Department
officials have planned a Public Safety Day
celebration from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Aug. 10
at Walgreen's, 10276 Belleville Road, Van
BurenTownship.
Members of both public safety branches
will be on hand and tours of the newly refur-
bished Fire Smoke House will be available.
There will also be a display of police vehi-
cles and fire trucks and both Dee-Dee the
Clown and Andy the Ambulance will enter-
tain children.
There will be free face painting and a fin-
gerprinting programduring the day.
The event is free and no pre-registration
is required.
Museumvisit planned
The Northville Art House is organizing a
visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts for area
seniors.
The free visit will being at 1 p.m. Aug. 16
with a tour of the Northville Art House prior
to boarding the complimentary shuttle bus
from Northville to the DIA. The bus will
leave the Art House, 215 Cady St., at about 2
p.m.
There will be a tour of the downtown
Detroit museum before the shuttle departs
for Northville at 4:30 p.m. The bus will drop
passengers off at theNorthvilleArtHouse.
The free day trip is limited to the first 55
participantswho are 55 and older.

Friends seeking home to help
The Wayne Friends organization is seek-
ing nominations for homes for the 15th year
of their annual project.
The volunteer groupmeets to help a local
homeowner with maintenance and painting
each year.
The only stipulation for homes is that
theymust be owner occupied.
This year, the volunteer home makeover
will take place Sept. 14. In case of rain, the
daywill be changed toSept. 21.
Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the
Wayne Banquet Center for a continental
breakfast and then travel to the selected
home which they will paint in "five hours or
less," according to group organizer Edward
McMurray.
Volunteers are need for the community
event.

the Friends' help due to age or financial cir-

Class of 1983 to 'reunite'
Romulus High School class of 1983 gradu-
ates will celebrate their 30-year reunion
from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Holiday
Inn, 17201NorthlineRoad inSouthgate.
All alumni and friends of classes 1981
through 1985 are invited to the event.
Admission is $65 per person until July 3
and $70 per personuntil July 26.

Dracula cast sought
The Farmington Players have scheduled
auditions for a production of Dracula at 1
p.m. Aug. 11. Registration will begin at 12:30
p.m.
John Boufford, directing the play written
by Stephen Dietz, is assisted by Alisha
Gellin, with Keith Janoch as technical direc-
tor and Kristi Schwartz and Laurel Stroud
as producers.
