Garden Club anniversary planned
Robert Dunajski and Sam
Durante have been named to the
Westland Planning Commission
and Scott Catallo to the
Brownfield Redevelopment
Authority.
The appointments, made by
Mayor William Wild, were con-
firmed by unanimous vote of the
members of the city council at the
July 18meeting.
Dunajski and Durante will join
the nine-member board which
meets at 7:30 p.m. the first
Tuesday of every month in the
Council Chambers of city hall.
The members review site plan
approvals, special land use
requests, rezoning requests, land
division requests, mechanical
amusement licenses, street and
alley vacations and other issues of
concern. Dunajski and his wife,
Miranda, have been Westland res-
idents since 2007. He has been
employed with Alta Equipment
Co. as a Regional Operations
Manager for 14 years. He has also
served on the Zoning Board of
Appeals and was appointed to the
PlanningCommission in 2012.
Durante is a 20-year Westland
resident who retired 9 years ago
from Terminex as a sales associ-
ate. He also served as Director of
Environmental Services at Sani
Hospital. He has served on the
Planning Commission since 2010
and will serve another three-year
term.
The Brownfield Redevelop-
ment Authority is an 11-member
board which meets following the
submission of a Brownfield
Redevelopment Plan. The
authority members facilitate busi-
ness and property owners' rede-
veloping brownfield sites through-
outWestland.
Catallo has lived in Westland
for more than 20 years. He is an
architect at NORR and is married
with three children. He also
serves on the Economic
Development Corp. and the Tax
Increment Finance Authority. He
was first appointed to the
Brownfield Authority in 2010 and
will serve another three years
with this appointment.
“These gentlemen have
worked hard on their respective
boards and commissions during
their previous terms and I look
forward to continuing to work
with them throughout their
upcoming terms,” commented
Wild. “They bring with them a
wealth of knowledge and experi-
ence from their unique fields and
will continue to be great assets to
the community they serve.”
Members of the Wayne
Garden Club are preparing to
celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the club.
The celebration is planned for
11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at
Goudy Park. Anoon programwill
recognize the accomplishments
of the club during the century of
service along with the dedication
of a memorial plaque to the city,
commemorating the longevity of
the group.
The afternoon will include
children's crafts and booths
staffed by garden experts who
will share planting and garden-
ing information and answer
questions about flowers and
plants.
There will be refreshments
and gift bags.

firefighters to engage in specific
types of outside employment
work which had previously been
restricted but still does not
impair his or her ability to per-
form his or her job duties with
the city.
The city also agreed not to
sub-contract services to a private
non-governmental entity if such
subcontracting would result in
the layoff of any member of the
bargaining unit.
The city also agreed to re-
open the contract for a specific
pension plan manager on Nov. 1,
2018 and onNov. 1 of this year for
bargaining of the payout of
earned and unused annual
leave.
The 2 percent wage cuts will
be restored to the firefighters,
according to the new agreement,
when the city annual audit con-
firms that the General Fund
Balance has reached at least 20
percent of the General Fund
expenses.

Moving tribute
Inkster firefighters assisted with the raising of the American flag
last week for the funeral procession for Dallas Police Officer
Michael Krol, 40, who was killed July 7 during an attack on
police as he worked a protest March in Texas. His funeral in
Redford Township was attended by hundreds of police officers
who stood at attention as his casket was taken to his final rest-
ing place.
