This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills on all on all property, except principal resi-
dence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its full foundation allowance per pupil under

City OK’s new signs for church, plaza
Romulus plans series of city concerts
Members of the Belleville
Planning Commission approved
two of three new sign requests dur-
ing their lastmeeting.
Commissioners approved signs
for Belleville Church of God on
Hull Road and Davenport Plaza on
East Columbia Avenue. A request
for a sign at Lake Plaza on Main
Street was not approved as the
petitioner, Sam Kassab, did not
identify all thematerials and colors
to beused in the sign.
This was Kassab's second
request for approval of the sign. At
earlier meetings, city planning con-
sultant Jill Bahm explained to
Kassab in writing that his original
proposal would interfere with sight
lines at the driveway at Lake Plaza.
This request did agree to a 4-foot
setback to solve that issue, but did
not provide the required informa-
tion regarding the materials to be
used. He also did not provide
details regarding landscaping and
the proposed parking entry,
specifics the commissioners
requested inMarch.
The new Church of God sign at
45170 Hull Road will be a one-
sided ground sign on a 12-inch
base.
The sign area is 3 feet by 8 feet.
The sign will be installed 48 feet
from the center of Hull Road. The
signwill be illuminated.
The Davenport Plaza ground
sign will be installed on a 1.7 foot
block base and the sign area is 8.7
feet by 7.3 feet wide.
The sign will be have a lime-
stone cap and a brick background.
The individual sign panels are
made of cut stainless steel and can
change when the business tenants
change. The sign will not be illumi-
nated.
Sounds in Downtown, a series of free sum-
mer evening concerts, will continue from 7-9
p.m. tomorrow, June 27, at Romulus Historical

chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for the
evening at the park. Early arrival is recommend-
ed. There will be family activities, vendors, con-
cessions and refreshments.
members of the Rotary Club of
Romulus and other volunteers.
The goal - performing the neces-
sary work to open the park in time
for the annual city fireworks June
26 - came to fruition.
Burcroff praised the many vol-
unteer groups that helped make
the park reopening happen and
said he wanted to be able to
reopen other parks that were
closed several years ago because
of budget concerns, too.
“We're trying to make sure we
have parks and recreation in the
community and we're not doing it
with any new tax burden on the
residents,” he said.
An archery range is being
restored at the park bymembers of
the Michigan Regional Council of
Carpenters Local 867.
“City staff and everyone
involved have done an incredible
job restoring the park,” Burcroff
said.
Bill Kren, executive director of the Greater
Romulus Chamber of Commerce, left, present-
ed Mayor LeRoy Burcroff, DDA Recording
Secretary Merrie Druyor and Maria Lambert,
DDA director, with a check for $1,000 to help
fund the concerts.
