Downtown Wayne will be the
site of Downtown Days July 13
through 15 when shops and
organizations will host numerous
family-friendly activities through-
out the weekend. A concert is
planned in Goudy Park featuring
Steve King and the Dittlies and
the Detroit Institute of Arts will
host a drop-in art workshop..
The event will feature a slate
of activities and promotions
meant to draw people into down-
town Wayne, noted a spokesman
from the Wayne Main Street proj-
ect. Downtown Days may be a
new name, the event is an expan-
sion of the highly successful
Sidewalk Sales activities that
have taken place in Wayne for
more than a decade.
Downtown Days will consist of
family-friendly activities, enter-
tainment and sidewalk and ven-
dor sales. This event is an
unprecedented collaboration
between civic organizations and
the downtown business commu-
nity.
“Wayne has a number of cool
retail establishments, a historic
downtown and beautiful green
spaces. This event will give peo-
ple a reason to explore all that
Wayne has to offer as well as
showcase our downtown as a des-
tination. We would love to make
our downtown your downtown,”
noted Kim White-Jenkins, co-
owner ofHeliumStudio.
Some of the events and activi-
ties that will be featured during
theweekend include:
Thursday, July 13
• Sidewalk Sales begin and
continue through Saturday, July
15
• 5-8 p.m. Knights of Columbus
Lounge, 3144 S Wayne Road, will
present an Evening Tea featuring
Victoria's Tea
Friday, July 14
• 8 p.m. - Wayne Rotary pres-
ents Goudy Park Concerts-In-The-
Park Series Kick Off with Steve
King and theDittlies
• Detroit Institute of Art
Inside/Out Scavenger Hunt
throughout downtown
Saturday, July 15
• 10 a.m. -4 p.m. - Flea Market
at Helium Studio, 3127 S. Wayne
Road featuring local pickers,
recyclers/upcyclers, artists and
makers.
• 11 a.m. 4 p.m. - Detroit
Institute of Art Drop-in Art
Workshop at the Knights of
Columbus, 3144S.WayneRoad.
• Limited shuttle service will
also be offered on Saturday to
help participants get around
town.
• 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.- Antique and
Collectables Showand Sale at the
Notre Dame Lounge, 3144 S
WayneRoad.
• 11 a.m. GateWay Classic Car

Michigan Ave. will host the Just
Hearse'n Around Car Club with
their CasketeriaBBQgrill.
Northside Hardware, 2912 S
Wayne Road will be continuing
their tradition of offering side-
walk promotions and .25 cent hot
dogs and pop throughout the
weekend.
The event will take place the
same weekend as the US-12
cruise, which is scheduled to take
place beginning at noonSaturday,
July 14, with entertainment
scheduled on the US-12
AmericanBar &Grill patio, 34824
W Michigan Ave. throughout the
day. Organizers of this event
anticipate that Downtown Days
will draw thousands of people
into downtownWayne.

Church will host Ice Cream Social
Mayor William R. Wild has
appointed Melissa DeLuka as a
new member of the Westland
Historical Commission.
DeLuka has lived in Westland
since 2000 and is employed as a
Quality Supervisor at FordMotor
Co. She is currently a board
member of Alpha Phi Omega
National Service Fraternity and
volunteered with the group in
Westland long before volunteer-
ing to serve on the Historical
Commission.
DeLuka grew up in the his-
toric district of Ypsilanti and
walked past historic Victorian
homes every day. She spent
much of her childhood exploring
the rich cultural history of the
area from the Native American
roots to the early settlers and
later automotive heritage. She
said she is excited to work with
the Historic Commission and
share the history of the many
neighborhoods and townships
thatmakeupWestland.
The Historical Commission is
a nine-member board appointed
by the mayor. The commission
collects, maintains, and pre-
serves any materials and docu-
ments relating to the history of
Westland and Nankin Township.
The commission also operates
the Helen C. Brown Historical
Museum at 857 N. Wayne Road.
Meetings of the commission take
place at 7 p.m. the last Tuesday of
the month at the historical muse-
um.

Melissa to the Westland
Historical Commission,” com-
mented Wild. “She brings with
her a fresh perspective and an
incredible passion for preserving
Westland's rich historical signifi-
cance.”
This event will give people a reason
to explore all that Wayne has to offer as well
as showcase our downtown as a destination.

Timothy Lutheran Church will host an Ice Cream Social
serving Guernsey Ice Cream treats, along with classic cars and
oldiesmusic from11 a.m. until 3 p.m. June 10.
A special guest appearance by Michigan Rock 'n' Roll Hall of
Fame member Benny Speer of Benny & the Jets is planned
from1-3 p.m.
