Northville Flower Sale blooms
The 27th Annual Northville Flower Sale
will take place throughout the downtown
from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. tomorrow, May 23
and from9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24.
The streets will be closed to traffic and
pavedwith flowers, shrubs and garden acces-
sories. More than 20 top-rated greenhouses
and garden shops will participate in the
event, organizers said.
Gardenviews plans Block Party
Gardenviews in downtown Northville will
mark their 19th year in business with a Block
Party from 7-11 p.m. May 24 in downtown
Northville.
When the vendors from the annual flower
show leave the streets on Saturday,
Gardenviews will transform the area of Main
Street between Center and Hutton into a
block party area. Tables and chairs will line
the street and food will be available from
local restaurant vendors.
Therewill be livemusic by BillyMack and
the Juke Joint Johnnies from7-11 p.m.
Chorusmarks anniversary
The Inkster Community Choraliers will
mark the 20th anniversary of the group with
a special celebration at 4 p.m. May 25 at New
HopeChurch, 33640MichiganAve. inWayne.

Memorial Day Parade lined up
The 2014 Memorial Day Parade organized
by the VFW Post 4012 will step off at 10 a.m.
May 26 from Griswold and Main streets in
downtownNorthville.
The parade will continue north of
Griswold to west onMain to south onWing to
west on Cady, stopping at Oakwood
Cemetery. Marchers will then continue to
First Street, march south to Fairbrook, west
to Rural Hill Cemetery to the Veterans'
Memorial.

Friends to sell used books
The Friends of the Northville District
Library has organized a sale of gently used
book, DVDs andmusic CDs from10 a.m. until
5 p.m. May 30 and 31 and from 1-3 p.m. June

Department plans open house
Romulus residents have been invited to a
special Open House at the Fire Department
headquarters from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. May
31.
Firefighters will be distributing fire safety
materials and participating in various
demonstrations throughout the day and
youngsters will appreciate special guest
appearance byFirePup.
The station is located at 28777 Eureka
Road and the event is open to the public.
Firefighters will be serving hot dogs and
chips during the day.

Commencement ceremony set
Commencement exercises for the
NorthvilleHighSchool Class of 2014will take
place on beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 1
beginning at Compuware Arena inPlymouth.
Doorswill open at 4:30 p.m.
There are no tickets required and seating
is on a first-come first-serve basis.

Baccalaureate ceremony planned
Members of the Romulus High School
Class of 2014 - and their families - will be hon-
ored at a special baccalaureate ceremony at
5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the high school
auditorium.
A baccalaureate service is a worship cele-
bration honoring graduating high school sen-
iors. The Romulus Christian Ministerial
Alliance will host the event. Alliance mem-
bers hope the baccalaureate becomes a tra-
dition once again at the high school, which is
located at 9650WayneRoad.
Refreshments will be served after the cer-
emony.

City sets visioning session
Community members are invited to "help
shape the future of Romulus" during a
Community Summit scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, June 4, at the Romulus Athletic
Center, 35765NorthlineRoad.
The planning process will allow residents,
business owners, school officials, clergy
members, civic leaders and others to work
side by side with city officials to create a
vision that will lead to making sound deci-
sions on planning, land use and policy mak-
ing in the city.

Demmer golf outing tees off
The Canton Community Foundation will
host the 23rdAnnual JackDemmerFordGolf
Outing beginning at 9 a.m. June 5 at Pheasant
RunGolf Course inCantonTownship.
The outing will feature 18 holes of golf, a
breakfast and lunch along with a dinner ban-
quet, a participation gift and a $5,000 putting
contest. There will also be a hole-in-one con-
test with a chance to win a 2-year lease on a
new ford Escape, courtesy of Jack Demmer
Ford.
All proceeds from the event will support
the Canton Community Foundation grant-
making program which supports nonprofit
organizations in the community. The cost is
$195 per person or $750 per foursome.

Story time returns
Story time will begin at Maybury Farm at
11 a.m. on June 4 and continue each
Wednesday and Thursday through the sum-
mer.
PNCBank representatives will provide an
interactive story every session.

past the state park entrance.

Laughter Yoga classes begin
The City of Plymouth - Recreation
Department is sponsoring laughter Yoga
classes from 6-7 p.m. Thursdays from June 5
through July 10.
Laughter Yoga combines yogic breathing
and laughter, providing great health benefits
including lower blood pressure, increased
endorphins, and an oxygen-rich environ-
ment. No experience necessary, no yoga
mats needed. Laughing for 10 minutes is
equivalent to 30 minutes on a rowing
machine to your heart, according to a pre-
pared release.
The cost is $65 for City of Plymouth resi-
dents and $80 for all others. All ages are wel-
come.

Church hosts blood drive
The First Presbyterian Church of
Northville will host a blood drive from 1-6:45

RougeRescue atMill Race
Rouge River Rescue Day is planned at
Mill Race Village in Northville from 9 a.m.
until 1 p.m. June 7.
TheRougeRiverDay project will focus on
planting the Middle Rouge bank at the Ford
Field entrance with native species.
Northville Historical Society members will
also continue work on the Mill Race channel
and garlicmustard control.
Volunteers are asked to bring trowels,
handpruners, shovels and rakes.

Women's prisons is topic
Historian and archivist Joseph Oldenburg
will present information about the women's
Detroit House of Correction and the Scott
prison in Northville Township beginning at 7
p.m. June 10 at the Northville District
Library.

Senior Brigade visits Inkster
The Senior Brigade, a Michigan Seniors
Initiative, will visit the Leanna Hicks public
Library of Inkster for a presentation regard-
ing Home Repair and Equity Scams begin-
ning at 6 p.m. June 14.
The discussion will explain how to recog-
nize and avoid home repair and home loan
scams, how to work with a contractor and
tips on reversemortgages
The seminar is free and open to the pub-
lic.

in Inkster, but is designed tohelp.
Orphan Trains discussed
The Orphan Trains of Michigan will be
the topic during the Third Thursday Lecture
Series at theBellevilleAreMuseum.
The lecture will take place from 6-8 p.m.
June 19 at the museum, 405 Main St.,
Belleville.
Lecture admission is free to museum
members and costs $3 per person for non-
members.

Arts &Acts Festival planned
The annual NorthvilleArts&Acts Festival
is planned for June 20-21 this year. This will
be the 26th juried art fair which will also
include well as film, theatre and literature
exhibits, music, children's activities, food and
other events.
Online safety advice offered
Representatives from the Senior Brigade
will discuss online safety at a meeting set to
begin at 6 p.m. July 21 at the Leanna Hicks
Inkster PublicLibrary.
Advisors will discuss email safety tips,
how to recognize and avoid online scams,
basic computer security measures, helpful
online resources and general online safety
tips. The meeting is open to the public and
there is no admittance fee.
