Legislator sets coffee hour
State Rep. Kurt Heise is hosting a coffee
hour to give residents a convenient opportu-
nity to meet with him locally and discuss
state or local issues.
Heise will be talking with residents from
7:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday, March 21 at Panera
Bread, located at 400 S. Main St. in Plymouth.
No appointment is necessary.
Heise is also available to meet with con-
stituents by appointment either in the district
or at his Lansing office. Residents are invited
to call toll free 1-855-REPKURT or e-mail
kurtheise@house.mi.gov to schedule an
appointment.
Hare applications available
The Belleville Area Council for the Arts
will again sponsor the Hares on The Square
display for 2014, formerly called Bunnies on
Main.
Applications and "Hare Cages" will be
available, upon payment of the $10 entry fee,
from March 21 through April 6 at Michigan
PC Tech located at 397 Main St., Suite 3 in
Belleville.
Completed hares must be returned to
Belleville City Hall between Tuesday, April 8
andFriday, April 11. Hares will be on display
in Fourth Street Square beginning Monday,
April 14. Prizes will be awarded at the May 5
city councilmeeting.

Church serving Lentenmeal
First United Methodist Church of Wayne
will serve fish dinners from 4: 30 to 7 p.m.
EveryFriday throughApril 11.
The fish dinner includes baked or fried
fish, baked potato or french fries, vegetable,
cole slaw and a roll. Children's meals are also
available with nuggets or one piece of fish,
french fries, vegetable slaw and a roll. The
cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children's
meals. Homemade pies are also available for
$1 a slice.
The church is located at 3 Town Square,

Charity hockey game set
Westland Mayor William R. Wild along
with his WestlandWildWings, are once again
ready to lace up their skates for the 5th
Annual Red Wing Alumni Charity hockey
game. The game will take place at the Mike
Modano Ice Arena (6210 N. Wildwood) at 7
p.m. Saturday, March 21.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and
$5 for children. Tickets can be purchased at
the mayor's office, the Mike Modano Ice
Arena and Wayne-Westland Federal Credit
Union, 500 S.WayneRoad. Seating is limited.
Church hosts Legacy Five
Bethany Bible Church of Belleville will
host Legacy Five in concert beginning at 7
p.m. March 22.
Advance tickets are priced at $13 and tick-
ets at the door, if available, will be $15.
Children 12 and younger will be admitted for
$7.

Samurai exhibit is topic
The Northville District Library will host
two programs featuring the Detroit Institute
of Arts current exhibition, Samurai: Beyond
the Sword. This visual presentation explores
the world of Japanese Samurai. Broadening
the stereotype of the warrior, the program
explores the role of the military arts and the
importance of Samurai engagement in the
cultural, spiritual and art worlds of their
time.

Parenting classes offered
Northville Youth Assistance is offering a
four-session Love and Logic parenting class
for parents of teens from 7-9 p.m. Mondays
from March 24 - April 14 at the Northville
Community Center. The fee to participate is
$30 per person, which includes a hardcover
copy of Foster Cline's book "Parenting Teens

State of theCity addressed
The Wayne Chamber of Commerce is
sponsoring the State of the City Luncheon
from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. March 27 at the
Woodlands of Van Buren Golf Course. The
mayor andCity ofWayne officialswill present
news surrounding economic development
efforts, the state of the business community in
Wayne, and finish with a question and
answer session if time permits.
The event will include 30 minutes of net-
working time from 11:30 until noon when
lunchwill be served. The cost is $20 formem-
bers and $25 for non-members.

The Main Street Kickoff Party will take

acceptance of Wayne into the Select Level of
theMichiganMainStreet program

Democrats United setsmeetings
The Western Wayne Democrats United
will meet at 6:30 p.m. the last Thursday of
eachmonth.
The next meeting is set for March 27 at
UAW Local 174, 29841 Van Born Road in
Romulus.
According to a spokesperson, the club
members work to ensure the government is
communicating with the people by address-
ing the issues that are vital to their livelihood.
"We are committed to creating and support-
ing the communities' efforts of policy/legisla-
ture change and grassroots initiatives by
encouraging 'Get Out The Vote' because
'Primaries are Priority'," she said in a pre-
pared release.
Health coverage Expo set
Wayne County Health and Human
Services Department will sponsor a health
coverage Expo from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. March
29 at the Western Campus of Wayne County
CommunityCollegeDistrict inBelleville.
The expo will include information about
Medicaid and Health Michigan enrollment,
health insurance application support, mar-
ketplace enrollment, federally certified
Affordable Care Act navigators, environmen-
tal service, WIC services, Head Start, smok-
ing cessation, nutrition education and other
community resources.
Those attending are asked to bring proper
documentation; driver's license or identifica-
tion card, Social Security number; proof of
income. unemployment benefits for family
members and any existing health insurance
information.

March IntoMadness set
The Wayne Community Center is spon-
sored March Into Madness from 6-10 p.m.
March 29.
Wayne Westland children 6-13 can enjoy a
night of swimming games pizza and pop for
$13. Non-resident fee is $16 per child.
Participants must bring a lined bathing
suit, towel, tennis shoes and lots of energy.

Food for Fines accepted
From April 1-30, the Romulus Public
Library will accept non-perishable food
items in lieuof fines.
The library will forgive $1 in fines for each
item donated. The program is sponsored by
Gleaners andTheLibraryNetwork.

Senior driving programoffered
The AARP will offer a refresher driving
course for motorists 50 years and older from
9 a.m. until 1 p.m. April 1 and 2.
The cost is $15 for AARPmembers and $20
for non-members. Students can refresh driv-
ing skills and learn new rules of the road.
The course will also cover research-based
driving strategies to increase safety behind
thewheel.
Some insurance companies offer dis-
counted rates to those who complete the
course, a spokesperson said.
Students can register and pre-pay at the
Wayne Senior Services office through March
26.
There are no tests to complete with the
course.
Square foot gardening discussed
The basics of square-foot gardening
including building, planting and maintaining
beds will be discussed by James Lee from 2-
3:30 p.m. March 22 at the Romulus Public
Library.
The lesson is free and the library is locat-
ed at 11121WayneRoad.

Chambers sponsor joint legal workshop
SueEllenEisenbergwill be the presen-
ter at a free I'll SeeYou In Court workshop
sponsored by Wayne County Community
College District and the Belleville,
Romulus, Wayne and Westland chambers
of commerce.
The workshop, which will help employ-
ers with training and guidance on topics
such as lawfully disciplining employee,
from hiring to firing; complying with fed-
eral and state guidelines in key areas such
as discrimination, harassment, wage and
hour and accommodation of employee
disability and proactive measures to insu-
late businesses from liabilities, will take
place from1-3 p.m.Wednesday, March 26.
The workshop is free to all chamber
members.
It will take place at the Wayne County
