Chocolate Fantasy tickets
on sale for annual ball
Brandon L. Tomblin, a Wayne High
School teacher, was arraigned Saturday
in 34th District Court in Romulus on
charges stemming from inappropriate
sexual contact witha 16-year-oldboy.
Tomblin, 26, of Canton Township, was
charged with Child Sexually Abusive
Activity, a 20-year felony, two counts of
Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a
20-year felony and two counts of
Distributing Sexually Explicit Material to
Children, which carries a penalty of 2
years ormore but less than 4 years
According to the Wayne County
Prosecutor's Office, the boy's mother
reported the inappropriate conduct of
Tomblin toward her son to police on Feb.
29. Tomblin, a choir
teacher, has resigned
from the Wayne-Westland
schools.
After a police investi-
gation, the formal charges
were presented at the
11:30 a.m. arraignment
last Saturday. Tomblinwas given a $75,000
or 10 percent bond by visiting magistrate
Vesta Svenson. Svenson ordered him to
wear a tether and remain under house
arrest with no access to computers if he
posts bond..
A preliminary court examination on
the charges is set for March 16 at the 35th
District Court inPlymouth.
The 8h Annual Women of Westland
Chocolate Fantasy Ball is planned from 6-
9:30 p.m. this Saturday, March 10, at Joy
Manor.
In addition to recognizing someone of the
community who demonstrates leadership,
success, and initiative in their business or
profession, this sweet event supports an
effort to empower women who might not
have the financial means to gain a higher
education, a spokespersonnoted.
Any gift to the 2012 Chocolate Fantasy
Ball will support the Women of Westland
silent auction, where partial proceeds will
be donated to the Barbara Douglas
Scholarship Program. Since 2002 with the
help of local businesses and sponsors, the
Women of Westland have been able to award
20 scholarships through this program.
Through this event the organization has also
been able to support such non-profits as the
American Cancer Society, The Red Wagon
LiteracyProject, First Step andmanymore.
This year, the event will feature hors
d'oeuvres, a premium cash bar, dancing and
proud recognition of the 2012 C.L.A.S.S.
Award nominees and the award recipient by
both state and local dignitaries. The evening
will conclude with the famous Chocolate
Fantasy Extravaganza, sponsored by Mary
Denning's CakeShoppe.
There are only 250 $25 tickets available.
Admission includes food and endless choco-

Pat Hoover, a resident of Westland since
1975, was the first to complete her passport
for thehealth initiative sponsoredby the city.
Hoover received stamps from a variety of
participants including the Westland
Friendship Center, the Westland Vitamin
Shoppe, Leo's Coney Island, the Westland
Library and others. She took her filled pass-
port to the office of Mayor William R. Wild
where she received her prizes which includ-
ed a complimentary Laser Tag Pass for
Gamerz USA, $5 off coupon from Max &
Erma's, and as the first to complete the pass-
port, a gift certificate to Marvaso's Italian
Grille.
The "Passport to aHealthy City" campaign
is a partnership between Westland and St.
Mary Mercy Hospital and promotes healthy,
active lifestyles for all ofWestland's residents
through the development of fun, convenient
programs created as a result of strong pub-
lic/private partnerships,Wild said.
Interested participants can obtain a pass-
port at any city building and are encouraged
to get started on having fun while getting
healthy by attending a campaign approved
or sponsored event,Wild said.
A free clothing giveaway is planned from
9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday March 10 at
Middlebelt Baptist Church, 943 Middlebelt
Road in Inkster.
This month, visitors are asked to call (734)
728-3838 to make an appointment or for
additional information.
There are clothes for all ages and for chil-
dren, women andmen available.
Food is also available by request.
North American Youth Sports has open-
ings in the annual spring youth basketball
tournament at the Inkster Recreation
Complex onApril 20-22.
The tournament will feature 10 brackets
which include: 5th-6th grade boys; 5th-6th
grade girls; 7th grade boys; 7th grade girls;
8th grade boys; 8th grade girls; 9th-10th
grade boys; 9th-10th grade girls; 11th-12th
grade boys; and 11th-12th grade girls. All
grades are based on the grade in which a
student is currently enrolled.
The entry fee for this tournament is $100
and guarantees each team a minimum of
two games.
There will be awards presented in each
bracket.
The entry deadline isMarch 30.
