FALL FESTIVAL 2017
Page 19
The Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps is a non-profit
organization of students from Plymouth and surrounding
communities, andmembers are dedicated to preserving the
ancient arts of color guard, fifing and drumming. These
dedicated students practice year round and average 40 to 50
live performances each year, including parades, patriotic
celebrations, and other civic events throughoutMichigan.
At the close of the summer performance season, the
corps travels to perform at historic landmarks across the
country. This year, the group performed in Fort
Ticonderoga, New York; Washington Crossing Historic Park
in Pennsylvania, which is where George Washington
crossed the Delaware River and turned the tide of the
Revolutionary War in 1776; Fort McHenry in Baltimore,
where in 1812, the words to the Star Spangled Banner were
inspired; the Historic Maryland State House, which is the
oldest state capitol in continuous use, dating to 1772; the
Annapolis Maritime Museum and the United States Naval
Academy.
Members of the PlymouthFife andDrumCorps hope the
enticing aroma of freshly roasted almonds coming from
their booth on Main Street next to Kellogg Park will tempt
Fall Festival patrons to support their organization by pur-
chasing the treats. The group does not receive any funding
from the school system or the government, and the roasted
almond sales help subsidize operating costs and activities.
